Natural Skin Lightening For Melasma

Splashing in the pool outside on a hot day is a refreshing activity. Unfortunately, many outdoor activities leave you exposed to the sun too long and you end up with an over-tanned skin. Natural skin whiteners can help but you don't want to use one that bleaches your skin more than needed.

First of all, you need to understand why some areas of your skin are darker than the rest. How dark or light your skin appears is controlled by a natural pigment known as Melanin. It is produced in the cells which are known as melanosomes. Tyrosinase is an enzyme in melanosomes that convert tyrosine, a type of protein to melanin. If a certain part of your skin is darker than the rest, you could say that the melanin activity there is higher.

In order to prevent the skin from darkening, the skin whitening products should contain ingredients have to target tyrosinase. For additional brightening effect, the skin bleaching product has to exfoliate the dead skin cells, revealing a fairer layer of skin.

You can concoct up your own complexion whitening  remedy at home. Here are some suggestions. Milk is a natural skin whitener. You can apply milk on the affected area. Leave it for awhile and then rinse it. Alternatively, you can prepare a tomato juice and lime face mask. Drip a few drops of lime juice on grated tomato and place it on your face. Leave it for 20 minutes and then wash your face.

For years, we have seen different complexion brightening products come and go. All of them entice us with their promise of even skin tone and fairer skin that will be the envy of all. No doubt, there is a big demand for cheaper ways to gain beautiful fair skin. Surgery is not affordable for many. So you see, a skin lightening that works is of great worth.

Not all skin bleaching creams are good for you skin or your health. Look for products that use safe ingredients. Many natural skin whitening products today use active ingredients extracted from plants such as bearberry, mulberry and licorice.

Applying skin bleaching cream like Meladerm Pigment Reducing Complex can reduce the concentration of melanin which causes hyperpigmentation. This skin whitening product also lightens skin color and fades various kinds of skin spots safely and naturally. Always do some research on the ingredients to determine if they really help in brightening your skin.

Natural Melasma Cures

If your skin color is brown, obviously your melasma will be more prominent. You've tried various skin bleaching products that promise to eliminate melasma. However, you're not happy with the long time length to see results. If you prefer holistic melasma cures, the best option in my opinion is plant- based. And you get to save more.

If you're thinking of using fruits to reduce melasma naturally, try grape seed extract. It contains high level of proanthocyanidins, which has shown its effectiveness in lightening melasma when it is used as a dietary supplement.
GSE is effective in reducing the hyperpigmentation of women with chloasma. The beneficial effects of GSE was maximally achieved after 6 months and these was no further improvement after this period. The latter GSE intake for 5 months may stop chloasma from becoming worse prior to the summer season.

Make your own mask by mixing brown sugar, coconut milk, nutmeg and clove essential oil. Here is why it should work.

Brown sugar is high in glycolic acid, which is known to improve melasma and often found in pricey chemical peels for that very reason. Coconut milk is high in lactic acid, another great way to treat melasma. Clove essential oil is well-known in the homeopathic community for balancing hormones and it won't cause further pigmentation issues when applied topically.

At times, making your own home remedies can be inconvenient for you. Alternatively, you can use botanical-based melasma creams such as Meladerm. I've spotted an informative review composed by AudreyAdams. I'm surprised that there are 10 strong lightening agents in Meladerm. It can fade melasma because it inhibits tyrosinase activity and deter the transfer of melanosomes from melanocytes to the keratinocytes. How Can Melasma Be Treated

To treat melasma successfully, you must find out what triggers melasma in the first. If your skin develop melasma easily under the sun, then you should avoid the sun or wear a sunscreen. If it is due to your hormones, then find a way to keep them in balance. There are other things you can do for your melasma like using a dark spot corrector, get enough sleep and eat healthily.

Patience is a must when treating melasma. It takes time for melasma to respond to the treatment.

Whatever treatment you decide, make sure it is not harsh to the extent that it cause contact dermatitis, which eventually will lead to postinflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Can Exfoliation Alone Reduce Melasma

Exfoliation can rejuvenate your skin by stimulating new layer of skin to grow. But can it reduce melasma?

Probably if your melasma is superficial, the chances are good. Some women tried costly dermatological procedures such as IPL, chemical peels and microdermabrasion but there were no improvement.

However, when they exfoliate their skin, they could see the melasma greatly reduced.

One key fact to remember is that nothing is permanent. The moment you step into the sun, you will start to see your melasma again.

If you decide to exfoliate your skin, make it as part of your daily skin care regimen. This is the secret to manage melasma successfully.

How To Conceal Melasma With Makeup

Julia, my friend had been battling with melasma ever since her first child was born. She is now in the forties and her descent is Latino.

Her melasma began with symmetrical round masks on both cheeks. Gradually, they covered the whole cheeks. She also had one brown patch on her forehead.

She had tried everything except laser which was too expensive for her. She started to improve her makeup skills, and finally she managed to make her melasma less evident.

Here is her morning routine with makeup.

  1. She washes her face with a good cleanser.
  2. Then she applies sunless tanner on lighter areas. For the dark areas, she uses an OTC skin lightening cream.
  3. Let it set for 5 minutes.
  4. Then she applies tinted correcting primer on her face followed by a foundation. For even tone, use a brush to blend both light and dark areas.
  5. Lastly, finish it with a bronzer on the light areas. Make sure it blends with the dark areas.

These steps should make your melasma less noticeable. Remember that this is a temporary fix.

How Does Retin-A Treat Melasma

Retin-A (tretinoin) is applied topically on melasma. It can be harsh. Sometimes, you may end up with contact dermatitis.

Doctors still do not understand how Retin-A reduce melasma. Probably the best explanation goes like this. Retin-A is used for skin exfoliation to encourage new cells to be generated. This process removes dead skin cells which build up on the surface of the skin and hold excess melanin within them.

According to Skin Care Center, it may take up to 24 weeks to see improvements. Most often, Retin-A is used together with other tyrosinase inhibitors such as azelaic acid or hydroquinone for better results.

Can Melasma Be Treated With IPL

It would be ideal if laser can just remove the pigments without affecting the cells. One laser that can do that is IPL. You have to use tyrosinase inhibitors such as hydroquinone, tretinoin, and steroid before and after laser therapy. However, there is risk of post inflammatory pigmentation which may delay recovery. This is an important fact to know as you need to attend several sessions of IPL.
